The sun warmed the air at Orechová Potôn to 28°C on Sunday afternoon for the Final of Round 3 of the OK-Junior European Championship, although it was cooled by a pleasant breeze.
Dries van Langendonck (Exprit/TM) led the first lap from pole position. Filippo Sala (LN/TM) was 2nd ahead of Niklas Schaufler (KR/Iame). Iacopo Martinese (KR/Iame) dropped back to 16th, with Schaufler back in 2nd, Roman Kamyab (LN/TM) 4th and Arjen Kräling (KR/Iame) 5th ahead of Joel Pohjola (Tony Kart/Vortex). Louis Cochet (KR/Iame) had moved up six places to 18th and Thomas Pradier (Tony Kart/Vortex) 10 places to 24th. 6 tenths behind van Langendonck, Schaufler was under pressure from Kamyab. The Brit took 2nd place on lap 6, passing Schaufler on the inside. Further back, Christian Costoya (Parolin/TM) had made up 10 places to 16th. Faster, Kamyab gradually closed on the leader van Langendonck. Pohjola then came back to 3rd ahead of Schaufler. Sala in 5th and Rocco Coronel (KR/Iame) in 6th came back with Bosco Arias (KR/Iame) and William Calleja (Parolin/TM) in their wake at the halfway stage. Pohjola reached 3rd position ahead of Arias and Calleja, then Scott Marsh (Tony Kart/Vortex) 6th followed by Martinese, Kräling and Schaufler. Pohjola took 2nd place 8 tenths behind van Langendonck by overtaking Kamyab. The leader’s lead was gradually being reduced. Pohjola attempted an attack on van Langendonck, but without success, and Kamyab took advantage to retake P2. While there was no doubt that van Langendonck would win, Pohjola made slight contact with Kamyab. Van Langendonck won by more than 2″ ahead of the Kamyab/Pohjola battle. Martinese took 4th place ahead of Marsh, Calleja was 6th ahead of Kräling and Arias, who was penalised. Schaufler finished 9th, Costoya 15th, Cochet 16th and Pradier 27th.
