The weather was overcast but not gloomy over MotorLand Aragón on Sunday morning. The Alcaniz track was dry with a temperature of 19° for the Super Heats of the Mondokart.com FIA Karting European Championship – KZ2.
Super Heat A: Spirgel goes it alone
Mattéo Spirgel (Sodi/TM) started from pole position and remained in the lead despite a good start from Daniel Vasile (Birel ART/TM). Egor Nosov (IPK/TM) was 3rd ahead of Marek Skrivan (IPK/TM) and Iaroslav Shevyrtalov (Maranello/TM). Paavo Tonteri (CRG/TM) was 6th. Spirgel was the fastest and was more than 6 tenths clear of the chasing pack by the third lap. Maksim Orlov (Parolin/TM) got off to a good start, moving up four places to 7th, followed by Robert Kindervater (Birel ART/TM).The positions on the track changed little after that. Spirgel crossed the finish line 3.6″ ahead of Vasile and Skrivan, who was then demoted to 13th because of his front fairing. Nosov was therefore classified 3rd ahead of Orlov who managed, with difficulty, to overtake Shevyrtalo. Cristian Bertuca (Birel ART/TM) was back in 9th place, while Jean Nomblot (Sodi/TM) was 12th.
Super Heat B: Jüngling ahead of SeveriukhinTimo Jüngling (Sodi/TM) got off to a better start from the outside lane and took the lead ahead of Kasper Schormans (Sodi/TM) then Artem Severiukhin (Birel ART/TM) and Nacho Tunon (KR/Iame). Arthur Poulain (Sodi/TM) went into a spin. Matteo Zanchi (Birel ART/TM) was 5th ahead of Simon Rechenmacher (KR/TM) and Genis Civico (OTK/Vortex). Tunon moved up to P3 by overtaking Severiukhin on the fourth lap, more than 6 tenths behind the Sodi duo. Tim Locati (Sodi/TM) reached the top fiv on lap 9 by attacking Civico. Jüngling won by less than 3 tenths ahead of Schormans. But Severiukhin regained P2 after Schormans was penalised for moving under the red lights at the start, and for the same reason Tunon found himself 5th behind Locati.
