Alessandro Truchot is taking up a new challenge by taking part in the Champions of the Future Academy Program launched by RGMMC. Ranked 8th in the trial run at Al Forsan in the United Arab Emirates last November, poleman on Day 2 and 4th in the Final, Alessandro appreciated the ‘Arrive and Drive’ concept, in which drivers compete on identical equipment drawn at random. The race format is unique, with one day of Free Practice followed by two identical days of Timed Practice, Qualifying Heats and the Final.
Alessandro is used to benefiting from the cutting-edge work of renowned teams such as Babyrace Driver Academy and Parolin Motorsport, but his performance in the first round of the Academy Program, which has just taken place in Italy on the Cremona track, was impressive. He adapted to his one-design Parolin / TM / Kart equipped with Vega tyres with astonishing speed.
On the first day, Saturday 30th March, Alessandro opened the hostilities on the dry Cremona track by taking pole position with a time of 54”137, which would remain unequalled throughout the meeting. After finishing 3rd in the heats, he fought hard right up to the final metres of the Final, crossing the finish line ahead of Albert Tamm. At the same time, a red flag following an incident in the field made the classification of the previous lap official in favour of Tamm.
Day 2 began as planned in the rain, with Alessandro setting the 4th fastest time in Qualifying. He was quicker in the Qualifying Heats with a win and a 2nd place with the fastest lap to his credit. The track had dried out for the Final and Alessandro lost time by starting from the outside line. 5th at the start of the race, he came back to 3rd midway through and was 2nd two laps later. A relentless battle for victory ensued over the final five laps. Alessandro managed to control the situation and win by 17 thousandths.
After a weekend that was as fast as it was consistent in both dry and wet conditions, Alessandro left Cremona in the lead of the Mini category of the Champions of the Future Academy Program, two weeks after winning the Trofeo Andrea Margutti.
